Mississippi University for Women has received top rankings and landed on quite a few important lists this year, including several compiled by U.S. News & World Report.
One of the recent high rankings was for “Best Colleges for Veterans.” MUW ranked No. 10 for Southern regional universities. The rankings are split into four regions: North, South, Midwest and West. To achieve this ranking, colleges had to meet certain criteria and participate in federal initiatives to help veterans lower the cost of school.
Colleges considered for these ranking participate in federal initiatives by helping veterans and active service members apply, pay for and complete their degrees. Schools must also be a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium, be certified for the G.I. Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. According to the World Report nearly 773,000 veterans have participated in the Post-9/11 Bill, better known as the G.I. Bill. The G.I. Bill was established to provide financial support for education and housing to active members of the military and veterans.
U.S. News also ranked MUW high in other “Best College” categories such as “Best Colleges to Work For,” “Top Public Schools and Regional Universities (South).”
