Here’s what’s happening around town for the week of Oct. 19-25.

In an effort to bring attention to sexual assault and make individuals aware of the nationwide campaign, “It’s On Us,” Mississippi University for Women students have planned a pledge event kickoff Monday, Oct. 20.

“It is the first step, but SGA plans to do other events throughout the year in coordination with this campaign,” said Sade Meeks.

Dr. Dennis Mitchell will present “A New History of Mississippi” on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. The location will be the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library at 314 N 7th St.

This will be an informative presentation of actions that have taken place to change the negative images some people have of Mississippi.

On Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., Jesse Robinson & The Hip Waders will be at the Columbus Arts Council at 501 Main Street.

“The show will be filled with Mississippi's finest sultry jazz and cool blues,” said Beverly Norris, programs director for the Columbus-Lowndes Conventions and Visitors Bureau.
