Here’s what’s happening around town for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Jenny Oaks Baker, a Grammy-nominated violinist, will present a concert with classical and Disney-themed selections on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 pm in Poindexter Hall on the Mississippi University for Women campus. She will be accompanied by Alisa Toy on piano. To purchase tickets, call (662) 328-2787.
“Anyone who enjoys music will enjoy this concert because it will be filled with various interpretations of many different types of music,” said Beverly Norris, programs director for the Columbus-Lowndes Conventions and Visitors Bureau.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, United Christian Baptist Church will be hosting its Teen Tailgating Festival from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Columbus Riverwalk.
"We at United Christian Church are going outside the four walls of our sanctuary to hopefully reach not only the youth in our community, but everyone! Our mission, which we believe will be accomplished, is to save souls, souls, and more souls as well as to get people back to the cross and have a good time doing it,” said Sheila Brown Honeycutt, a longtime member of the church.
The Streetcar 5K Run will also be on Saturday at 8 am. The registration for the race will be $25. The race will begin at the Tennessee Williams’ Home, located at 300 Main Street.
Have an awesome week and keep current.
