Stephen and Frieda Burt will be teaching a five-week dance class to couples at the Stark Recreation Center.

The class will meet every Tuesday for five weeks starting on March 29 with a focus on the nightclub two-step. The class is for couples only. Students, staff and faculty are eligible to take the class for $80, while others will be charged $120.  A $10 discount is offered for two couples who register at the same time.

The Burts have been dancing together for more than 10 years.  Frieda Burt said that the nightclub two-step can be used across all genres of music from soft rock to R&B and some country music. She mentioned that “Skyfall” and “Hello” by Adele, “I Hope You Find It” by Cher, and “Back to December” by Taylor Swift can all be used for this dance.

“The NC2-Step is designed so that it can be done in a small space but can also be expanded to cover an entire dance floor,” said Frieda Burt.

Marion McEwen, wellness coordinator at The W, said the dance is an easy pattern and a good place to start learning how to dance with a partner.

“We selected the nightclub two-step because it is adaptable to any genre of music.  Whether you are cruising, getting married or just want to learn something new in your life, this dance class is for you,” said McEwen.

Rhonda Williams made sure to register early for the event.

“I saw [the class] on Facebook and thought it sounded like something fun and interesting to do.  I called my sister and told her about it, so she and her husband are going to join us,” said Williams.

Registration is available at Stark Recreation Center or by contacting McEwen at 662-241-7494 or mmcewen@ss.muw.edu.
