The Spectator spotlight of the month is on Zap Saucier, a freshman Culinary Arts major. They chose Mississippi University for Women because of its Culinary Arts program, which stood out from other schools. However, like many students, Saucier has not been a fan of the rise of COVID-19 cases on campus and dislikes that some classes are completely online.
“I hope I don’t have any more online classes, because I don’t like them and don’t do well in them,” said Saucier.
As the campus is taking the needed precautions to keep cases to a minimum, they are looking forward to on campus activities and clubs. Saucier wants to be able to find ways to have fun throughout the semester.
“I want to go, and, of course, I will be careful, but I want to have fun,” they said.
In addition to being a Culinary Arts major, with interests in a few campus clubs, Saucier also has an online crochet shop.
“I started this shop because my friends would always ask me, ‘Could you make this, could you make that? I’ll pay you!’ Eventually, I decided to start a shop,” said Saucier.
The shop is an excellent way for Saucier to keep their hands busy while watching videos for class or releasing tension from the pressures in school and life. Saucier’s online crotchet shop can be found at zappedcreations.bigcartel.com. Even though Saucier is running this shop by themselves, they do not let it interfere with their studies.
“I put relatively easy things on the shop,”
These items include, but are not limited to: cows, coasters, pillows, and gloves. The prices range from $5 to $45, which also helps Saucier earn some money.
Like most freshman, Saucier is just trying to have fun, while following The W’s COVID regulations.
