For one week in March many students got to enjoy a final reprieve from schoolwork and classes. Spring break is a week full of rest and relaxation for most, and students at Mississippi University for Women have been looking forward to it all semester.

Students spend their break in different ways, with some working, catching up with friends, relaxing at home or even going on fun trips. This year, students are even more excited than usual as it is the first regular spring break since COVID began.

Some students, such as Carson Holly, a sophomore majoring in Pre-Med and Pre-Physical Therapy, planned to spend his spring break hanging out with family and friends. Spring break gives students an opportunity to step back from academics and enjoy life, even if it is only for a week.

“Go to the zoo, we have a zip line park in my hometown, and we are gonna do that. Overall, just gonna relax and take a break from schoolwork,” said Holly.

Mallory Parker, a freshman majoring in Biology, planned to spend her spring break in Tennessee. Parker mentioned her favorite part of the trip is getting to explore and indulge in the restaurants.

“We’re probably gonna do the ski lift and walk on the sky bridge while we are in Gatlinburg. When we go to Chattanooga, we’re probably gonna go to the aquarium and go antiquing,” said Parker.

While some students venture off, others such as Christopher Marshall, a senior Psychology major, must enjoy the break while working. As an RA on call, Marshall planned to spend time with his girlfriend, cooking and playing board games with friends.

Once spring break is over, there are only two months until graduation.

“In just a short time, I get to leave this campus and be done as a student and get to start my adult life and not having to worry about classes, schoolwork, et cetera,” said Marshall.

Many seniors are itching for these two months to fly by so they can go out and put their newly honed skills learned at The W to good use. At the same time, the remaining freshman, sophomores and juniors will be working diligently to push through the remaining months until the summer begins.
