Mississippi University for Women held its annual 100th Night Ceremony on January 24 to celebrate members of the senior class.
Introduced in 1992 by the Division of Student Services, the 100th Night Ceremony takes place precisely 100 nights before graduation.
It serves as a bittersweet reminder of the upcoming transition for members of the senior class as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives. The event allows seniors to reflect and recognize the accomplishments during their time at The W.
At this year’s ceremony, held at Pope Banquet Hall, students radiated with pride as family and friends gathered to celebrate their time at the university. The evening began with the Student Programming Board president, Braxton Brown, giving a heartfelt address acknowledging the resilience and dedication of the graduating class.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of special awards and recognitions to outstanding seniors involved in campus clubs and organizations. They were recognized for exceptional leadership, academic excellence and community engagement throughout their college careers.
As the night unfolded, a sense of unity and nostalgia surrounded Pope Banquet Hall.
The event concluded with a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony, where alumni passed the flame to the graduating class, signifying the passing of the torch and the continuation of The W’s legacy. A representative from each club or organization on The W’s campus lit a candle from the alumni flame.
The 100th Night Ceremony is not merely a ritual but a living testament to the countless stories that have unfolded within its historic halls.
