The W is currently undergoing reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of College and School Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Every 10 years colleges in the Southern states, including Alabama, Florida and Georgia, are visited by representatives of SACACOC. The College of Commission is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in Southern states.
SACSCOC approves the colleges that award associate, baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degrees and assures educational quality.
The W has been accredited by the College of Commission since1929. The W's College of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Professional Studies and the College of Education and Human Sciences undergo accreditation. On Sept. 25, the College of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology will be reviewed for accreditation by the College of Commission team. The College of Education and Human Sciences and the Department of Art and Design received affirmation of accreditation of its undergraduate and graduate degrees in June.
Each program in the colleges also undergoes its own specific accreditation process. Along with colleges and departments, the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is also a core requirement for SACSCOC. The QEP aims to transform student learning on campus and focuses on learning outcomes and environments that support student learning. The W will end its accreditation process in the year 2014.
